The Pousada de Do João IV is situated in the former Convent of Chagas de Cristo in the historical village of Vila Viçosa. It is very traditional with intricate themed rooms, and the original convent cells, retreats and the oratories built by the nuns. The gourmet restaurant offers a “Regional Gastronomy Experiment”, served with the excellent regional wines (Borba, Estremoz, Redondo, Reguengos and Évora). On Saturday you may enjoy a traditional buffet, and during the summer months a barbecue is available on the terrace. A sample menu might include clam chowder, dogfish in a marinade with garlic and coriander, roast leg of pork with white beans and regional sweets.
